Maybe my favorite thing about getting the opportunity to work play-by-play for the SEC and ACC Networks is how much I get to learn about teams and programs. Like most jobs, the majority of the work gets done ahead of time and that’s no different for broadcasting. I’d say 85% of the job is the prep work – research, coach interviews, building spreadsheets – and in that process you get a great understanding of traditions, history, and perspective.
Anyone that’s watched any amount of women’s soccer knows that the University of North Carolina is the epicenter of the sport at the amateur level in this country. It’s amazing what Anson Dorrance has accomplished at that school, and he’s earned the right to be considered one of the greatest college coaches in any sport.
I had the chance to be on the call for No. 1 UNC’s home game against Wake Forest from the beautiful new stadium on campus this fall and I was impressed by everything I saw that night. This sport, thanks to the US Women’s National Team, continues to grow and they’re producing a great product on the field. This game was a perfect example of that.
Check out some of the highlights of the game from the team’s Twitter account. Thanks to UNC for including my calls in the video. That was a lot of fun and a great way to debut on ACC Network Extra.
