After a few SEC baseball games in the spring, I got to return to the booth for Alabama soccer at the end of August. It’s the first of three games over a 10 day stretch and another great opportunity to improve behind the microphone.
The coolest part about this experience is learning more about women’s soccer and gaining an appreciation for what Wes Hart is building at Alabama. You can see the young talent on the team and understand why he’s excited about the direction of the program.
This game featured ACC opponent Virginia Tech, which has been a strong program this decade. The Hokies were undefeated and hadn’t lost in August since 2011 but an own goal early in the game was enough to give the Crimson Tide the victory. With a long homestand still remaining, Alabama could gain a lot of momentum heading into conference play in a couple weeks. It’ll be interesting to follow.
The great thing about the SEC Network and ESPN is that they archive all of their games so you can go back and watch some of this one if you want to see the talented Haley MacDonald and myself call the action.
